I really like creating things for PANS OPS and procedure design and with the latest move of Toncontin International Airport to Palmerola which is about 1 hr 15 min drive there has been a lot of debate going on about should MHTG remain open or why it can not accommodate larger aircraft and so forth. Most of the analysis are really based just on “expert” opinion also known as I think it works. Don’t get me wrong many times the input of experts is spot on and what they advise based on their years and years of seeing similar cases is very close but in the moment we are living now we have access to many different tools and can make the same decisions based on evidence.
Anyway this post is not about if MHTG or MHSC (or MHPR? as it apparently changed) is better or commercially viable but it is about how using a software tool available in the Microsoft Store called FPAssistant together with QGIS a 3D view can be created in order to to visualize in Google Earth. I am sure there are better and more feature rich ways in which 3D can be viewed but the de-facto standard is still to produce KMZ/KML to be viewed through Google Earth.
Here is the video I made on the topic and let me know what you think about it in the comments
